The former married couple have been cast to return for the upcoming movie which is expected to relaunch the franchise, nine years after the last movie came out.

AceShowbiz - Courteney Cox will reunite with ex David Arquette onscreen after agreeing to reprise her classic horror role in the new "Scream" reboot.

The "Friends" star has been booked to step into the shoes of tenacious reporter Gale Weathers again in the upcoming studio rehashing of the 1996 slasher movie, titled "Scream 5", led by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence.

Cox joins her ex-husband David Arquette in the reboot, with her former spouse revisiting the role of goofy Sheriff Dwight 'Dewey' Riley.

Bosses at Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures are relaunching the entire "Scream" franchise, which earned $600 million (£460 million) with four movies that were all directed by late filmmaker Wes Craven, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other original castmembers like Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard have yet to be officially announced as part of the reboot. However Lillard, whose Stu Macher character was slain in the original Scream, has recently expressed interest in resurrecting his persona to join the new project.

"I would love to come back," he told Entertainment Tonight in May (20), noting "conversations are being had."

The new Scream film will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina and casting is still ongoing.
