AceShowbiz - Actor Anthony Mackie has launched the United for Grocery Workers Relief Fund in his native New Orleans, Louisiana to aid struggling locals.

The "Avengers: Endgame" star has partnered with bosses at United Way of Southeast Louisiana, the New Orleans Council on Aging, and Entergy New Orleans for the venture, which offers workers $150 (£120) worth of credit to utility bills.

The service has been launched as grocery store workers remain on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We often take for granted the people that are always there for us," Mackie said in a statement. "I go to the grocery store three to four times a week for me and my family. Every time, I come face to face with essential workers who are providing me and so many others with one of the most important necessities, food. Now, more than ever, it is important that we express our gratitude and appreciation."

The support will be offered beyond the global health crisis, with the over 2,500 thousand individuals working in grocery stores eligible to receive support year round.
