Joined by the college's president, Jennifer Raab, the former '30 Rock' star popped up online to share words of encouragement amid difficult times caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

AceShowbiz - Alec Baldwin thrilled students graduating from Hunter College's theatre programme by making a surprise appearance during their virtual commencement ceremony.

The actor popped up online after those receiving their degree from the New York school were forced to celebrate their achievement remotely due to the coronavirus shutdown.

The "30 Rock" star, who is a friend and collaborator of the school's director, Greg Mosher, was joined by the college's president, Jennifer Raab, during the event and shared words of encouragement amid difficult times.

"Congratulations, you made it. You made it through a bizarre finish line in these bizarre times." he shared, "We (thespians) are always there to help people process their reality even though we deal in things that are not even close to reality."

He also noted how important the arts are, adding, "People have always needed the arts, particularly the performing arts, but they are going to need it now more than ever during these weird, weird and painful times we are in."
