Production for the fifth instalment of the horror movie franchise is expected to begin in Wilmington, North Carolina in late 2020 with Tyler Gillett serving behind the lens.

AceShowbiz - David Arquette has confirmed the "Scream" movie franchise is heading back to the big screen with him reprising his cop character Sheriff Dewey Riley.

The actor, who portrayed Riley in all four "Scream" movies, has revealed he'll be reuniting with his "Scream family" once the coronavirus lockdown is over.

"I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again...," he says. "Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring (late creator) Wes Craven's legacy."

Movie bosses at Spyglass Entertainment are in talks with more cast members with a view to adding them to the fifth "Scream" instalment, which will begin production in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year. Tyler Gillett will direct.

Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard have both recently expressed interest in returning to the "Scream" franchise, with Lillard telling Entertainment Tonight he's up for bringing back his character, Stuart, even though he was killed by Campbell's Sidney Prescott in the first film back in 1996.

"I would love to come back," he said. "Actors, for the most part, most of us are out here tap dancing as fast as we can to feed our families and get jobs. So if there was a chance to come back, that made sense, yes."

Campbell previously told The Hollywood Reporter, "We're just in the beginning phases of negotiations, and we'll have to see where it goes with Covid and everything. There are a lot of things up in the air."
