The former NBA player was arrested on Saturday, May 2 and charged with aggravated assault after shooting at a man and a woman who entered his home with a 'For Sale' sign outside.

AceShowbiz - Former NBA star Shannon Brown has been arrested for a serious crime. The retired athlete, who was married to singer Monica from 2010 until their divorce in 2019, was charged on Thursday, May 2 with aggravated assault for firing a rifle at a couple in Georgia.

According to Tyrone Police Department spokesman Philip Nelson, the unidentified man and woman told police that they attempted to enter the house as they were looking for homes for sale in the neighborhood. At approximately 6 P.M., they stopped at a home in the River Oaks subdivision off Ga. Highway 74, which has a "For Sale" sign outside.

The couple told police the gate to the property and the front door were open. They claimed they announced themselves and were told by someone inside, "Come in." But they were met with unfriendly welcome as Shannon reportedly emerged with a riffle upon their entry. The couple withdrew from the house and as they were leaving, the former pro basketball player fired five or six rounds in their direction.

The alleged victims contacted police at approximately 9:45 P.M. and met with them at the River Oaks subdivision. Upon visiting Shannon's house, officers found one empty shell casing at the scene. Shannon told police that he thought the couple was breaking into his residence.

After news of the shooting broke on Thursday night, people expressed the confusion about the incident, with one tweeting, "Shannon Brown got arrested for firing his gun at two strange people walking in his house because there was a for sale sign in the yard and the doors were open? Let me find an article that better explains."

Shannon last played in the NBA in 2014. Throughout his career, he won two Championships in 2009 and 2010 when he played for L.A. Lakers. Following his divorce from Monica, he retained the home he once shared with the singer and their children. The "T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle" star was given six months to relocate from the property.
