The upcoming 'Battlestar Galactica' series is moving ahead as the show secures Michael Lesslie who previously penned the script for the 'Assassin's Creed' movie.

AceShowbiz - The new "Battlestar Galactica" series has been fast-tracked with "Assassin's Creed" screenwriter Michael Lesslie signing on.

Lesslie, who also wrote the spy drama "The Little Drummer Girl", will join "Mr. Robot" and "Homecoming" executive producer Sam Esmail for the much-anticipated small screen venture.

"I am beyond excited to be taking on this iconic and inspirational show," Lesslie said in a statement. "As a lifelong devotee, I know that the possibilities of Battlestar Galactica's world are infinite and that each iteration has raised the bar for epic and intelligent sci-fi storytelling."

"Battlestar Galactica" began life as a 1978 film. A spin-off series launched the same year. A second series ran from 2004 to 2009 and followed a group of humans on the verge of extinction amid a robot war.
