AceShowbiz - Grammy Award-nominated gospel singer and record executive Troy Sneed has succumbed to a battle with COVID-19.
The singer passed away on Monday (April 27) at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was just 52.
Sneed embarked on his musical journey as a member of the choir at Florida A&M University, and went on to work as the Georgia Mass Choir's assistant minister of music for 10 years, during which he worked on Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston's 1996 movie "The Preacher's Wife".
He landed a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album for 1999's "Higher" by Youth for Christ, while he also produced their 2006 single "The Struggle Is Over".
Sneed enjoyed a solo career beginning with his 1999 album "Call Jesus", and later scored hits with "Work It Out", "My Heart Says Yes", "Hallelujah" and "Kept by His Grace".
His other albums included 2015's "Awesome God" and "Taking It Back" in 2017.
Sneed also established his own record label, Emtro Gospel, with his wife Emily in 2003, going on to produce popular tracks by artists including Alvin Darling, Bonafide Praisers, Bishop Bruce Parham and Bishop Rudolph McKissick.
Sneed is the latest musician to fall victim to COVID-19 - John Prine, Joe Diffie, Wallace Roney, "I Love Rock & Roll" songwriter Alan Merrill and Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger are just some of the famous faces to die from the virus.
