A spokesman for the Spanish tenor assures that he is 'stable' amid the health scare and adds that he 'will remain in hospital as long as the doctors feel it is necessary.'

AceShowbiz - Placido Domingo is fighting coronavirus in a hospital - two weeks after first displaying symptoms.

The 79-year-old announced in a Facebook post last Sunday (22Mar20) he had coronavirus and was in self-isolation in the Mexican resort of Acapulco.

On Saturday, a local Mexican paper revealed he was being treated at a private hospital in Acapulco, and a spokesman for the star told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper he was "stable" amid the health scare.

"He will remain in hospital as long as the doctors feel it is necessary," they added.

Mexican media have reported he has passed the most critical phase of the virus and is on the road to recovery.

Announcing his diagnosis, the Spanish tenor, who is currently battling a series of sexual misconduct allegations that have forced him to withdraw from a string of performances, wrote: "I beg everyone to be extremely careful, follow the basic guidelines by washing your hands frequently, keeping at least a 6 feet distance from others, doing everything you can to stop the virus from spreading and please above all stay home if you can!"

"Together we can fight this virus and stop the current worldwide crisis, so we can hopefully return to our normal daily lives very soon."

Numerous stars have been diagnosed with Covid-19, including Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Olga Kurylenko, Jackson Browne, Britain's Prince Charles, and U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
