Calling the year 'one of the hardest years of my life,' the 'Gone Girl' actress reveals that she struggles with mental health issues after her mother Kathleen Balgley got really sick.

AceShowbiz - Emily Ratajkowski has called 2019 "one of the hardest years of my life" in a candid Instagram post she shared on Monday, March 23.

The model/actress 28, told fans about her struggles over the last year and admitted she was battling "serious depression", after her mum Kathleen Balgley, 66, was taken ill.

And while Emily has never shared full details of her mother's condition, she said she was "really sick," adding: "I don't generally like to get too personal on here and I'm far from having s**t figured out but these were some of the notes I scribbled down on New Year's Eve..."

"I wanted to share them and a little piece of my story in case they might make any of you feel less alone in the anxiety or confusion or fear you could be experiencing right now...," she continued.

Alongside a snap of herself, the "Gone Girl" star shared pages of handwritten notes, detailing, "Things I learned in 2019," along with an extensive list of life lessons.

"True satisfaction comes after quite patient hard work/You can't control other people's perceptions so do not let their perceptions dictate your life or who you are," one point read, with other statements including, "Your feelings are always justified and should be honoured," and, "Be curious about yourself and other people rather than judgemental (sic)."

The "I Feel Pretty" star added in the caption: "I was battling a serious depression and everything felt very uncertain. 2020 is definitely giving last year a run for its money but I'm happy to say that I've have learned how to take better care of myself."
