AceShowbiz - Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry are making sure no student in the Oakland area will be left hungry because of coronavirus shutdowns. On Friday, March 13, the former Golden State Warriors player and his wife pledged to provide foods for at least 18,000 children through their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

The married couple made the announcement through the official Instagram account of their foundation. Noting that "more than 18,000 students in Oakland rely on their school for 2+ meals each day," the pair shared their concerns that the closing of schools "until April because of the COVID-19 crisis" will lead to "childhood hunger in our hometown."

In the accompanying video, Stephen stated, "We know the world is changing before our eyes in terms of dealing with the spread of coronavirus and we just found out that the Oakland Unified School District is closing the doors for the foreseeable future, so we want to intercede on behalf of the kids that rely on the daily services and try to help anyway we can."

"The statistics are really staggering," Ayesha chimed in. "At least 18,000 kids rely on at least two meals a day from the school system, so we want to make sure that we rally around everyone and ensure that these kids are not wondering where their next meal is coming from. So we're asking you to rally with us."

In the caption of their post, the couple revealed that they were making a donation to Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) as well as Feeding America "to help ensure no child has to worry about where their next meal is coming from while schools are closed." They further encouraged donations to ACCFB or other food banks.

One day after their announcement, the Currys thanked followers for a "truly amazing" response to their efforts in providing healthy meals to all hungry kids in Oakland. "We're thrilled that our partners at the Oakland Unified School District will be providing grab-and-go meals on Mondays and Thursdays at several of their schools across the city," they added.

"Additionally, the work we're doing with Alameda County Community Food Bank is helping to address the major gaps that still exist in our shared efforts to provide food to all hungry kids + families in Oakland," they continued sharing. "It takes a village to meet these urgent needs and we're proud to be a part of this incredible community."
