The 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' star has reportedly been on the top of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's casting list since 2009's 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'.

AceShowbiz - Mark Wahlberg has emerged as movie bosses' favourite to take over the lead role in a planned "G.I. Joe" reboot.

Paramount Pictures executives are revamping the franchise once more, and they are reportedly keen to land the "Transformers: Age of Extinction" star to portray soldier Conrad S. Hauser, also known as Duke, sources tell WeGotThisCovered.com.

Wahlberg had previously been top of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's casting list when he first began working on 2009's "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra", but the gig went to Channing Tatum, who reprised the character for the 2013 follow-up, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation".

Few details are known about the next "G.I. Joe" project, tentatively titled "G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant", but it's believed Snake Eyes, another character from Hasbro's line of action figures, will also feature.

"Crazy Rich Asians" actor Henry Golding is expected to return as Snake Eyes, after tackling the part in an upcoming origin story of the same name, which is set for release this October.
