Horan's reinvention of "Lover" with his 25-year-old labelmate gave a rock ballad-twist to Swift's Grammy-nominated song. Recorded at London's Air Studios, it was released as part of the Spotify Singles series. Along with it, Horan also dropped a new version of his own song, "No Judgement".

"When it came to deciding what song I was going to do, there was only one option for me," the ex-boyfriend of Hailee Steinfeld continued. " 'Lover' is one of my favorite songs I've heard in a long time and Taylor is a good friend. Let's hope she likes it."

On the day his Lover version was made available, Horan shared with his Twitter follower, "Great day recording a live version of no judgement and a cover of Lover by the lovely @taylorswift13 for @Spotify singles sessions."
