Having been a longtime advocate for queer rights, the 'Stay With Me' hitmaker claims that the upcoming album deals with the singer's lifelong conflict with gender identity.

AceShowbiz - Sam Smith's upcoming album "To Die For" is inspired by the star's lifelong conflict with gender identity.

Last year (19), the Grammy Award-winning artist came out as non-binary, and revealed they prefer 'they/them' pronouns, sparking an outpouring of support from fans online, including those dealing with similar issues.

Sam has been a longtime advocate for queer rights, and speaking to Australia's The Daily Telegraph newspaper, explained being able to help people is "wonderful."

"Right now I am just trying to figure out my s**t and if it is helping other people, then it is absolutely wonderful," the "Stay With Me" star said.

The musician is set to release their new album, which is inspired by the "shame I have felt my entire life," in May.
