A representative explains that the auction site has 'made the decision to prohibit the sale of merchandise, images and mugs' relating to the late NBA legend due to his tragic passing.

AceShowbiz - Merchandise from Kobe Bryant's Celebration of Life service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California has been pulled from eBay for violating the auction site's policies.

Shirts, badges, programs and other items from the memorial event hit the auction site this week, begs February 24, following Monday's event, with one shirt selling for $2,025 (£1,567).

However, multiple listings have since disappeared from eBay, with the site telling TMZ they were removed due to a policy that prohibits sellers from profiting off of "human tragedy or suffering."

In an email sent to one seller explaining their position, a representative for the site said, "Please note, due to sudden and tragic passing of Kobe Bryant - eBay has made the decision to prohibit the sale of merchandise, images and mugs relating to their passing."

However, the policy does not prevent the sale of other Kobe memorabilia, including autographs, jerseys and photos, despite the fact those items are in high demand following the NBA (National Basketball Association) star's death.

The sportsman and his teenage daughter Gianna were among the nine victims of a helicopter crash last month, and stars including Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, joined his wife Vanessa to pay their respects at the public gathering.
