Talking to reporters at an 'American Idol' event, the singer reveals the advice he gave to her model daughter when she first told him she wanted to enter the showbiz industry.

AceShowbiz - Lionel Richie doesn't want his children to have an easy road in their career because of him. Instead, the singer wants them to learn that being in the show business is not as easy as it seems and when it comes to his youngest daughter Sofia Richie, he wants her to experience a lot of failures.
Talking to reporters at an "American Idol" event, Lionel revealed the advice he gave to the model when she first told him her interest to enter the industry, "I told her, 'I wish you lots of failure, young.' " He then added, "We're in a business where it's how you recover and 'yes, yes, yes' does not feel terrible, so you have to get smacked in the face. I said, 'You're going to have a little bit more of a different time because you're coming from a family where they expect a little bit more.' "
Despite the tough love, Lionel expressed how proud he is of Sofia in her career. "She's got the attitude," he said of his daughter. "She sings too. I'm so excited about her. Sofia's doing fabulous right now."
However, while Lionel admitted he is more than willing to give advise to Sofia, he made it clear he is not going to interfere with her personal life. "You can't step in there," he notes. "It just doesn't work. If you're a parent, you'll understand."
Sofia is pretty private about her personal life, though she doesn't mind giving her fans a glimpse of her relationship with Scott Disick through Instagram photos. The blonde beauty has also made appearances in the reality TV star's own show "Flip It Like Disick" as well as "Keeping Up with the Kardashians". However, she recently said that she would rule out from appearing on the series again in order to focus on her acting career.
