Sources claiming to be Autumn Phillips' friends suspect that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure might have played a role in her decision to separate from her husband.

AceShowbiz - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from their royal duties isn't the only blow that the royal family had to deal this year. It's been reported that Peter Phillips, the eldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, is separating from his wife of 12 years Autumn.

The Sun reports that it is Autumn who wants to have a divorce, as sources claiming to be her friends suspect that Harry and Meghan's exit might have played a role in her decision. "What worries some of us is that Autumn may want to go back to Canada," says one insider. "Perhaps she thought if that can happen then I can leave as well? That might be unfair on her but you have to consider it."

Meanwhile, Peter is allegedly "devastated" as he doesn't see this coming at all. "He thought he was happily married and had the perfect family with two lovely daughters. But he is now in total shock," another insider dishes, adding that Queen Elizabeth "will be very upset by this as well." The source elaborates, "It's the last thing she needs after all her recent troubles and you get the feeling that the Royal Family is falling apart a little bit."

Buckingham Palace had no comment when asked to respond to the report.

Peter and Autumn first met at her native country of Canada in 2003, when they both watched the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Following years of dating, they got engaged in July 2007 and tied the knot a year later at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The service was conducted by David Conner, the Dean of Windsor.

The couple, who has two children together, lived in Hong Kong after Peter changed positions within the Royal Bank of Scotland and became head of their sponsorships activities in the region.
