Camas High School principal Liza Sejkora has resigned after tweeting, 'Seems to me that karma caught up a rapist today,' about the basketball legend's tragic passing.

AceShowbiz - A Washington state principal has lost her job following her insensitive comment about Kobe Bryant's fatal helicopter crash. Liza Sejkora has stepped down as the principal of Camas High School in Camas after receiving backlash for calling the former Lakers superstar "a rapist" and suggesting that his death was karma.

"Not gonna lie. Seems to me that karma caught up a rapist today," Liza wrote on her Facebook page after news of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe, his daughter Gianna and seven others broke on Sunday, January 26. Her post only stayed up for about an hour before it was removed, but that's enough for other users to take a screenshot of it and repost it online.

After taking the heat for her controversial comment, Liza apologized for her "tasteless" post. "On January 26 after news broke of Kobe Bryant's death, I made a comment to my private social media which was a personal, visceral reaction," she wrote. "I want to apologize for suggesting that a person's death is deserved. It was inappropriate and tasteless. Further, I apologize for the disruption it caused to our learning environment today."

She continued, "While what I wrote was posted on a private Facebook account to people who are my friends and was quickly removed, I acknowledge that private does not always mean private." She added, "I love being principal at Camas High School. We have tremendous students, staff, and community. I've learned an important lesson and I hope that I can earn your trust back."

In an interview with a local CNN affiliate, Liza further tried to explain her insensitive post. "I have some personal experience that generated the visceral reaction," she claimed. "This was a situation where I didn't think before I posted, and I’m terribly regretful about that."

Liza was then suspended by the school, while the Camas School District superintendent Jeff Snell told KATU that Liza's remarks "did not meet [the] standard" set for educators in the district.

Jeff then announced Liza's resignation on Friday, February 7. "This has been a tumultuous week, however, I've been impressed with the level of professionalism our staff members have displayed as well as the caring and compassion from our families," he stated. "I don't support it. It's hard for me to understand it. Anytime there's a loss of life, I hope that all of us come together and rally around that. It didn't come across that way. That's really unfortunate."
