During a visit to the South Wales resort of Mumbles, the Duke of Cambridge spends some time with a fan and responds to her adorable confession that his second child is her favorite.

Visiting the south Wales resort of Mumbles on Tuesday, February 4, the 37-year-old royal expressed a rare public adoration toward his wife, Kate Middleton, when speaking to a fan of his 4-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were greeting members of the public at Mumbles Pier when a woman told him that his second child was her favorite. Being a proud father, he was quick to sound an agreement, "Yes, she is lovely." He swiftly extended his praise to his wife, gushing, "Just like my wife."

The royal couple have rarely displayed their affections in public during official engagements. A so-called friend, however, told PEOPLE that the two "look after each other but in different ways." The insider added, "Some people might say it's an old-fashioned marriage, but it seems to work. They have different roles, but they come together as a team."

William and Kate made the Welsh stop to visit a lifeboat station, a school and an ice-cream parlor. He opted to go with black suit jacket, light blue shirt with green sweater and dark pants. His 38-year-old wife, on the other hand, covered her red Zara dress under a navy coat with a red and white scarf. She completed her look with Woodland Oak Leaf Hoop earrings by Asprey.

During their visit to a local gelato shop to talk about Kate's "5 Big Questions on the Under Fives", William tried on a vanilla cone with chocolate sprinkles though declaring that he was a "chocolate man". When asked if his three children, Charlotte, 6-year-old Prince George and 1-year-old Prince Louis like ice cream, he spilled, "They do, some more than others!"

The older brother of Prince Harry additionally revealed that he read Julia Donaldson's "Room On The Broom" for his three children after spotting a young boy reading the book. He went on to recall his conversation with the author when she received her CBE for services to literature, "I said 'Do you realize how many parents you have saved at bedtime?' "

Kate's "5 Big Questions on the Under 5s" was a landmark survey that run from January 21 to February 21. It is aimed to "give people across the U.K. an opportunity to provide their view on raising the next generation." About the survey, the Duchess said she wants to "hear the key issues affecting our families and communities so I can focus my work on where it is needed most."
