The reason the 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' actor couldn't attend the BAFTA Awards in London was allegedly because he wanted to repair his relationship with his oldest son.

AceShowbiz - Brad Pitt reportedly pulled out of the BAFTAs on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the last minute to meet up with estranged son Maddox.

The star made headlines after skipping the ceremony in London, during which Margot Robbie took the stage to collect his Best Supporting Actor prize for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", citing a "family obligation" for his absence.

According to Britain's The Sun newspaper, the actor chose instead to visit his eldest son, 18-year-old Maddox, from his marriage to Angelina Jolie, to try and patch up their relationship.

The pair stopped speaking in 2016 following a major row on a private jet flight, which saw the FBI investigate Brad over claims he had been "physically abusive" towards Maddox. He was cleared of any wrongdoing.

A source close to the "Ad Astra" star told the publication, "Maddox gave Brad the chance to talk and he dropped everything."

"Being a father is the most important thing in his life and he would do anything to repair their relationship," they continued. "Maddox has been away at university so when Brad found out he was going to be around and they could have a conversation, he cancelled the U.K. trip."

Brad's acceptance speech, read by Margot, went viral online following the awards show, as he referred to Britain's Exit from the European Union just two days prior - "Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club!" - and joked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, withdrawing from royal duties, quipping, "I'm naming this award Harry, because it's coming back to the U.S. with me!"
