The Bon Jovi frontman is giving back to the community in his native New Jersey by offering free nutritious meals for financially-strapped students at Rutgers University.

AceShowbiz - Jon Bon Jovi is taking his Soul Kitchen food venture to university.

The service, which offers financially-strapped people nutritious meals in return for donations and volunteer time, is to open on the campus of Rutgers University in the rocker's native New Jersey to aid students in need.

"What makes the JBJ Soul Kitchen model special is that it's designed so that everyone can enjoy a healthy, delicious meal and dine with dignity - whether you're hungry or hungry to make a difference," Bon Jovi's wife Dorothea Bongiovi tells WENN.

A spokesman for the service, which boasts two community restaurants in Red Bank and Toms River, New Jersey, adds, "No matter the individual's socioeconomic situation, everyone who dines at the JBJ Soul Kitchen will enjoy the same chef-created, three-course meal."

"Every week the menu changes with a variety of options for appetizers, main courses and desserts... All meat served is certified Halal, Kosher is available upon request, and there are always vegan and gluten-free options, along with delicious desserts."

Jon Bon Jovi launched the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation in 2006 and has since worked to "break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through developing partnerships, creating programs and providing grant funding to support innovative community benefit organizations."

Since their inception, the Soul Kitchens have served over 100,000 meals.
