This announcement is surely surprising, given that the 'Master of None' star dished on her 'interesting' marriage life with Alana Mayo in an interview earlier this month.

AceShowbiz - Lena Waithe's marriage to Alana Mayo is short lived. Just two months after the "Master of None" star revealed that the then-couple had secretly married, they have issued a joint statement to E! News to announce their decision to part ways.

"After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time," so the statement read, not revealing the reason for the split.

This news sure came as surprising because earlier this month, Lena dished on her "interesting" marriage life in an interview with Us Weekly. "Now it's like, I think we're just doing the best we can, trying to figure it out," "The Chi" creator said. "It's just like, OK, I think this is what is needed now, you know what I mean? I think as you get older and you mature, you try and figure things out. But yeah, it's like one of those life things that you do, and you hope you get it right."

Lena first met Alana, who was initially straight, at a general business meeting, but didn't start to develop feelings for her until the latter started asking her out on dates. They got engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 2017 and got married in secret at a San Francisco courthouse in 2019. Lena revealed the news during her appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in November of that year.

"We snuck and sis it, you know. We didn't really make any announcements or a big, you know," she said of the ceremony at the time. "We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse and got married right in front of Harvey Milk's bust. It was her idea, like all good things are, and she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, 'We should get married there,' and I said, 'Cool, I'm down.' "
