AceShowbiz - Kate Hudson has been accused of overlooking the terrible human rights record of the United Arab Emirates by accepting a paid post to promote tourism in Dubai.
The "Almost Famous" actress took to Instagram on Monday, January 13 to document her recent trip to the region, sharing images and a video heavily promoting travel to the city, also featuring pals Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana.
"My journey through DUBAI! So much fun #Dubai #AStoryTakesFlight," Kate captioned the post, part of the new Visit Dubai commercial.
Social media users were quick to jump on the promo, branding the star irresponsible for glossing over the fact that homosexuality is still illegal in the country.
"In Dubai, you risk many years in prison for being gay. This is one of the truths that lies behind the Emirates' insta-friendly facade," one commenter wrote. "The truth is that a brutal reality is hidden behind the city's glamorous facade."
Another added, "Dubai is rife with human rights abuses, why give them your tourism?".
"BEING GAY IS PUNISHABLE BY DEATH AND STONING IN DUBAI," an additional post read.
"Why support the government and tourism there?" a fan asked. "You have so much money already? They literally kill people for being gay."
Hudson has yet to address the controversy.
