AceShowbiz - "Ugly Betty" creator Silvio Horta has been remembered by his family as a "kind and beautiful man" who "touched the lives of millions" following his tragic death.

The TV writer was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Miami, Florida hotel room on Tuesday (January 07), and now the 45-year-old's mother, Ana, and sister, Hilda, have revealed he had been battling addiction and depression for some time.

However, they explain, "Through it all, he always found a way to turn his struggle into laughter."

Paying tribute to Horta, who also wrote 1998 horror film "Urban Legend", they add to TMZ, "Through his friendships, his love and his work in TV and films, Silvio touched the lives of millions..."

"He was a kind and beautiful man. He may be gone but his light will shine on."

Their statement emerges shortly after "Ugly Betty" stars America Ferrera, Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie all expressed their sadness at Horta's loss on social media.

His funeral is to take place in Miami, although his relatives are also planning to hold a second memorial service in Los Angeles at a later date.
