AceShowbiz - Tom Hanks wasn't the only one of his family that generated massive reaction following his appearance at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards. Chester Hanks, the son of the Cecil B. de Mille Award recipient, broke the Internet after he posted on Instagram a video of him speaking in a Caribbean accent from the red carpet of the ceremony in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, January 5.
He captioned the clip, "BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN CHUNE IN." Some of his followers got good laughs of it, while his mother Rita Wilson reacted in the comment section of the video, "Maybe the best laugh of the night."
However, many found his accent confusing, with CNN naming the video the "most bizarre moment of the 2020 Golden Globes." Another asked, "why is Tom Hanks' son Chet Hanks speaking patois?"
It's not clear where the accent came from, but Chet has unapologetically responded to the confusion over his bizarre accent. He shared a screenshot of a headline which read, "Tom Hanks' son Chet is filmed speaking patois at the Golden Globes - and the internet is baffled," and added in the caption, "Average citizens: damn this is scary I can't believe we're on the verge of WW3 let me check the news smh @CNN: [laughing while crying emojis]."
Stirring up the confusion, the 29-year-old actor and musician posted another video of him walking out of a store and sipping a drink before talking in the same accent as he said that he had woken up in the morning to see the "internet gone mad." He additionally wrote in the caption, "RESPECT TO MI #ISLAND MASSIVE 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 RRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH."
Chet and his family came to the 77th Golden Globe Awards in support of his father Tom, who was honored with the Cecil B. de Mille Award. The 63-year-old actor got emotional as he talked about his family in his acceptance speech.
"A man is blessed with a family sitting up front like that," he said onstage with teary eyes. "A wife that is fantastic in every way and taught me what love is, five kids who are braver, stronger and wiser than their old man is, and a loving group of people who have put up with me being away months and months at a time. I can't tell you how much your loves means to me."
Chet a.k.a. Chester Marlon Hanks is one of Tom's two children with Rita. The couple also has another son, Truman Theodore. Tom additionally shares two children with his ex-wife Samantha Lewes, actor Colin Hanks and daughter Elizabeth Hanks. As for the fifth child he's referring to in his speech, a source tells PEOPLE the Oscar-winning actor thinks of Colin's wife Samantha Bryant "as a daughter."
