'The Farewell' actress is unraveled to be one of the nominees just hours after making history at 2020 Golden Globes by winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.

AceShowbiz - "The Farewell" star Awkwafina and "Blue Story" actor Micheal Ward are set to face off for the EE Rising Star Award at the 2020 BAFTA Film Awards.

"England Is Mine"'s Jack Lowden, Kaitlyn Dever from "Booksmart", and "It Comes at Night" star Kelvin Harrison Jr. complete the shortlist for the annual honour, which celebrates an artist's breakthrough role.

The accolade is the only prize at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards which is voted for by members of the public.

The Rising Star contenders were unveiled on Monday morning (January 06), a day before the main BAFTA nominations are announced, and just hours after Awkwafina, who also featured in hit movies "Ocean's 8" and "Crazy Rich Asians", made history at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards in Hollywood by becoming the first woman of Asian-American descent to take home the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for her work in "The Farewell".

Addressing her latest awards acknowledgement in a statement, she said, "It's truly an honour to be nominated for the EE Rising Star award. I'm grateful to BAFTA and the jury for the nomination and that I am able to share this recognition with so many other talented actors and actresses."

Last year's Rising Star trophy was presented to Letitia Wright, while previous winners include her "Black Panther" co-star Daniel Kaluuya, James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Kristen Stewart, and John Boyega.

The 73rd BAFTA Film Awards are set to take place in London on 2 February.
