AceShowbiz - "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and "1917" have ruled the winner list in movie categories at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards. Both movies nabbed the coveted prizes, with the former being named Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and the latter being awarded with Best Motion Picture - Drama.

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" bagged two other awards with Brad Pitt's win as Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture and Sam Mendes for Best Screenplay. Leonardo DiCaprio, however, lost the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, in which he was nominated for, to Taron Egerton for his portrayal of Elton John in "Rocketman". Earlier that night, John took the stage to accept Original Song - Motion Picture for co-writing the movie's soundtrack "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" with Bernie Taupin.

Also bagging a total of two awards, "1917" snatched Best Director in Motion Picture for Sam Mendes' work.

Other big winners included Joaquin Phoenix who was named Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for his titular role in "Joker", and Renee Zellweger who scored the Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama title for her portrayal of Judy Garland in "Judy". "Joker" additionally earned another award in Best Original Score - Motion Picture category for Hildur Guonadottir.

Awkwafina, meanwhile, made history as the first woman of Asian descent to win Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, thanks to her role in "The Farewell". Another female performer, Laura Dern was named Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for her role in "Marriage Story".

South Korean movie "Parasite", which is directed by Bong Joon Ho and already won Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, was named Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language, while "Missing Link" won Best Motion Picture - Animated.

Also handing out the awards in television categories, the Sunday, January 5 ceremony saw Tom Hanks being honored with Cecil B. DeMille Award and Ellen DeGeneres as the recipient of Carol Burnett Award.
