In a video documenting the moment, the mystery buyer tells the 71-year-old actress he believes the iconic leather jacket 'should not sit in a billionaire's closet for country club bragging rights.'

AceShowbiz - Olivia Newton-John was "blown away" after an auction winner who paid $243,000 (£185,000) for the jacket she wore in "Grease" returned it to her.

The iconic black leather jacket Olivia wore to perform "You're the One That I Want" with John Travolta, was auctioned off earlier this year alongside a treasure trove of movie and video memorabilia to raise funds for her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Australia.

But despite paying nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the item, the man who won the auction has now donated the jacket back to its original owner.

Olivia, who is in the midst of treatment for her third battle with breast cancer, will now display it at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne.

"That is the most incredibly generous thing to do for me" she told the man. "I am just blown away."

The auction winner, who described himself as the singer and actress' "number one fan", told the 71-year-old actress that after much thought, he'd decided the jacket "should not sit in a billionaire's closet for country club bragging rights."

He also wished her "God speed for a quick recovery."
