The 'Lighthouse' actor and the 'Tomb Raider' actress are joined by Sam Rockwell, Melissa McCarthy, and Nicholas Hoult among others as the new addition to the U.K. organization.

AceShowbiz - Robert Pattinson and Alicia Vikander are among a record-breaking intake of new BAFTA members joining the U.K. arts organisation in 2019.

Pattinson and Vikander are joined by other famous names including Sam Rockwell, Melissa McCarthy, "Downton Abbey" actress Joanne Froggatt, "Yesterday" star Himesh Patel, and Nicholas Hoult on the list of 559 new members, according to Variety.

The record 2019 intake will feature new members based in 11 different countries, and BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) director of awards and membership Emma Baehr said she was proud of the diverse new batch of members.

"We are committed long-term to creating opportunity, and so our aim every year is to make the new membership intake as inclusive as possible, and that's across different roles in the sectors," she said. "And we do also absolutely prioritise individuals from under-represented areas."

Patel, who has been involved in BAFTA's Elevate programme supporting new artists from underrepresented groups, said similar schemes are why he is proud to join the organisation.

"It (BAFTA) has such a broad reach, and I feel they use that for good," he explained. "There are schemes up and down the country, Elevate being one. It is about collaboration, about celebrating the best of what we have - that's what excites me about now being a member."
