Soccer Star Benik Afobe Mourning Devastating Death of 2-Year-Old Daughter

In a statement released via a Times Sports writer, the Bristol City player confirms that his daughter Amora passed away 'peacefully' after developing a severe infection.

AceShowbiz - Benik Afobe is going through a hard time. The professional soccer player for Bristol City has lost his 2-year-old daughter, Amora, just one day after Thanksgiving.

Through the Twitter account of Times Sports' writer Henry Winter, the 26-year-old athlete issued his heartbreaking statement. "It is with extreme heavy heart that the Afobe family have today confirmed the devastating news that their first child, their beloved daughter Amora, 2, passed away late on Friday evening," his message read.

"Amora was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection," the message went on. "Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and despite doctors doing absolutely everything they possibly could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side."

Noting that they "have been left totally devastated and heartbroken" by the sudden loss, the entire Afobe family are requesting that "their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time."

Upon hearing the tragic news, Bristol City took to Instagram to express their grief and condolences. They uploaded a picture of Afobe and his teammates with a caption that read, "Bristol City dedicated Saturday's performance at Ashton Gate to Benik Afobe and his wife Lois, whose baby daughter Amora died on Friday."

The club also included a statement from Head Coach Lee Johnson, who said, "I'd like to dedicate that win to the big man and his family - much love to you all." Meanwhile, City Chief Executive Mark Ashton offered his own condolences. "We cannot imagine the heartache they are feeling and we will do all we can to support them," he was quoted.

Other words of sympathy came from West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere. Along with a picture of Benik and his family, the 27-year-old wrote on Instagram , "Benik, my brother, my words will never mean enough to express how deeply sorry i am for your loss, and i know that no words will heal the pain in your hearts right now, just know i am here for you, Lois and your family always."

"You, Lois and Alba are our family," he reminded his close friend. "And Amora infectious smile will live on in our hearts forever. I love you my friend stay strong."

Another soccer player, Leicester City midfielder James Maddison shared his support by wearing a shirt with words that read, "BENIK WE'RE ALL HERE FOR YOU BRO." Posting the snap on his social media page, he further noted, "Benik Afobe, no words or messages on my shirt will ever be enough but just want you to know Me, Leicester city and the footballing world are here for you and your family. Stay strong at this heartbreaking time brother."
