Melissa shared her past domestic abuse story in an emotional Instagram video posted on Wednesday. The "Supergirl" star detailed the harrowing experience she suffered at the hands of his abusive partner, whose identity was kept secret by the actress, but described as someone who was younger than her.

"I learned what it felt like to be pinned down and slapped repeatedly, punched so hard the wind was knocked out of me, dragged by my hair across pavement, head-butted, pinched until my skin broke, shoved into a wall so hard the drywall broke, choked," she said in the video.

It was not until an incident in which her partner threw an iPhone at her face that Melissa decided to walk away from the relationship. The injury she received at the time was so bad, as she explained to her followers, "The impact tore my iris, nearly ruptured my eyeball, lacerated my skin and broke my nose. My left eye swelled shut. I had a fat lip ... This is an injury that's never going to fully heal, my vision is never going to be the same."

Melissa's "Supergirl" co-stars Jeremy Jordan and Chyler Leigh, and fellow actors Rachel Zegler as well as Elizabeth Tulloch later showered her with praise for her bravery to share the story.
