The former member of The Fugees, who is accused of owing at least $120,000 in unpaid child support, has been ordered to attend the December 20 hearing if he doesn't want to be taken into custody.

AceShowbiz - Rapper Pras has been ordered to appear in a New York court for his next child support hearing or face arrest.

The former The Fugees star, real name Prakazrel Michel, is accused of owing his ex Angela Severiano at least $120,000 (£93,000) in unpaid child support to help care for their son, Landon.

The matter was heard in Manhattan Family Court on Monday, November 25, but Pras was a no show, leading Support Magistrate Tionnei Clarke to issue a bench warrant for his arrest, which was stayed until the next scheduled hearing on 20 December, reports the New York Post.

If the MC fails to attend on that date, he faces being taken into custody - but his representative, Darrell Johnson, claims Pras had to miss the hearing due to "a family issue."

"He wanted to be there but he couldn't be there... He will be at the next court appearance," Johnson explained.

"My client is not doing any leisure trips. He had family issues. He is trying to get his life together."

The spokesman didn't elaborate on the nature of Pras' personal problem, but he also skipped a court session regarding his request to reduce his child support payments last week (ends November 22), when he was said to be attending a family funeral in Haiti.

At the time, Johnson dismissed Severiano's allegations suggesting Pras had been hiding his money in "shell companies" to avoid sending her the outstanding cash, instead claiming his finances had been tight ever since U.S. federal authorities seized his accounts amid accusations of campaign-finance violations linked to former President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.

Johnson insists the rapper, who has denied those charges, has "worked out some payment arrangements" to appease Severiano, to whom he plans to send a cheque before next month's hearing.
