The Neil Young Archives announces they will close down their account on the Mark Zuckerberg-founded social media after it sponsors the Federalist Society event.

AceShowbiz - Neil Young is planning to quit Facebook over its links to a right-wing libertarian group.

The social media giant has drawn criticism for sponsoring a gala organised by the Federalist Society, a legal organisation that promotes right-wing thinking about U.S. law, as controversial Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh was a speaker at the event last week.

Reacting to the news, the veteran rocker announced on his Neil Young Archives (NYA) website that he would be pulling its account from the platform, as well as to protest Facebook's alleged failure to tackle false information spread on its pages.

"Facebook is facing criticism for sponsoring the annual gala of the Federalist Society, the powerful right wing organisation behind the nomination of the conservative supreme court justice Brett Kavanaugh," Young wrote in his post.

"This turn of events, in addition to the false information regularly supplied to the public on Facebook, with its knowledge, has caused us to re-evaluate and change our use policy.

Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court last year sparked outrage, as he was accused by three women of sexual misconduct, including assault, allegations he denies.

The NYA Facebook page was still operational on Friday, but the "Heart of Gold" hitmaker has vowed to cut all ties with the company and stop posting material.

"NYA, is no longer interested in further links with FACEBOOK and will be discontinuing use," Young added. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to you."
