AceShowbiz - Omarion is known to be a private person, so when the B2K rapper decided to join a reality TV show back in 2014, it was only natural for everyone to be surprised by the move. Now, the hip-hop star opens up about what drove him to appear on VH1's "Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" with then-girlfriend Apryl Jones.
Speaking to VLADTV for an interview which was shared on Friday, November 15, Omarion suggested that he did it for his music. "I dropped 'Post to Be' and I wasn't really getting a lot of support from the label and I was approached with opportunity because they hadn't brought 'Love & Hip Hop' to L.A. yet," he explained, adding, "I got an opportunity to amplify the brand through the TV, through 'Love & Hip Hop'."
When asked how appearing on TV affected his relationship with Apryl at the time, Omarion responded, "Well, let me say first initially the reason why I decided to be on 'Love & Hip Hop'."
He continued, "Number 1, because I am a private person, I felt like it was a good opportunity and a nice, I wouldn't nice platform but you know, a good platform for me to be able to introduce people into my world a little bit. And also, like I said, the record company at the time was not supporting the record so I needed some level of visibility in order to sell 'Post to Be'."
"That was the sentiment behind being on 'Love & Hip Hop'. It was always, you know, to promote my music and just let people in the world who I am as an entertainer because not everyone that entertains start as young as I did so essentially I'm growing up in front of people's eyes. This was another piece, this was another part of that," he concluded.
Omarion and Apryl, his backing vocalist at the time, started dating in 2013. They welcomed their first child together, A'mei Kazuko Grandberry, on March 7, 2016, just four months before the former couple announced their breakup. Apryl is currently dating Lil Fizz, who is also a member of B2K, and is getting backlash for it.
