The retired NBA player has been accused by a man, who remains anonymous, of slapping him twice in the face with an open hand while celebrating his 58th birthday in a Florida bar.

AceShowbiz - Dennis Rodman was reportedly hit with a misdemeanour battery charge after allegedly slapping a man in a Florida bar.

According to NBC News, the retired professional basketball player slapped the man twice in the face with an open hand, as they celebrated his 58th birthday back in May.

The victim, who remains anonymous, filed a police report two days after the event, claiming he woke up the next day with swelling to his face.

Rodman pleaded not guilty to the charge through a lawyer, who appeared in court on his behalf on Thursday, October 17. He could face up to a year in jail if convicted.

The incident comes after the sportsman, who famously dated pop star Madonna in the '90s and has had several run-ins with the law following his retirement, was accused of stealing $500 (£388) worth of clothes from a California Yoga studio.

He also denied that allegation, claiming he asked the employee working at the studio if he and his group could "take a couple of gifts" and she agreed.
