The 'Little Miss Sunshine' actor is set to play Gotham's infamous master of puzzles to antagonize Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader in the upcoming reboot directed by Matt Reeves.

AceShowbiz - "The Batman" has found its Riddler. 35-year-old "Little Miss Sunshine" actor Paul Dano has been signed on to play the classic villain in the upcoming DC remake of the Caped Crusader tale. Rumor has it, his character will be named Edward Nashton.

The casting news surfaced following rumors that Warner Brothers' discussions with Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen fell apart. Both of the actors who co-starred in 2016's adult animated comedy "Sausage Party" allegedly eyed the role of either The Penguin or The Riddler.

The Riddler, also known as Edward Nygma in the comics, loves leaving puzzles and clues in his schemes. The villain was played by Frank Gorshin and John Astin in the 1960s Batman TV series, Jim Carrey in 1995's "Batman Forever", and Cory Michael Smith in FOX's TV show "Gotham.

The new movie is written and directed by Matt Reeves ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", "War for the Planet of the Apes"). Robert Pattinson is set to star as the Gotham superhero, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

The remake is scheduled to hit theaters across the country on June 25, 2021. Production is expected to begin sometime soon. While the plot is still kept secret, Reeves has revealed that the movie takes inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock and will introduce "an almost-noir driven, detective version of Batman."
