The former 'How I Met Your Mother' actor has suffered from infected tendon in his hand after he fell 'onto a sea urchin' during a vacation with his husband and their children.

AceShowbiz - Neil Patrick Harris had surgery on Tuesday, October 15 after a sea urchin accident left him with an infected tendon in his hand.

The 46-year-old actor shared the news with his fans on Instagram, admitting it happened when he and husband David Burtka took their nine-year-old twins Gideon and Harper to Croatia.

"I tripped and hand planted onto a sea urchin almost two months ago while climbing rocky cliffs in Croatia," he wrote. "Most of the tiny spines I dug out myself, but two refused to leave and one got infected," he said.

While the surgery was successful, Neil has to rest as much possible, while keeping his arm elevated with a special cushion.

"Only drawback - having to wear this massive hand elevating contraption for the foreseeable future... all in all, though, I have to say: uni is still delicious," he laughed, referring to the Japanese word for sea urchin.
