The 81-year-old actress along with more than a dozen of activists has been arrested while taking part in a protest about climate change in Washington, D.C.

AceShowbiz - Actress and activist Jane Fonda has been arrested in Washington, D.C. during an oil protest.

The 81 year old, who was once dubbed Hanoi Jane for her anti-Vietnam War protests, was taken into custody on Friday, October 11, for "unlawfully demonstrating on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol," according to a United States Capitol Police spokeswoman.

Fonda was one of 16 people arrested and charged with crowding and obstruction.

The "Barbarella" star announced she would be joining protesters in the U.S. capital on Thursday, stating: "I will be on the Capitol every Friday, rain or shine, inspired and emboldened by the incredible movement our youth have created."

"I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore - and even worse empower - the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We cannot continue to stand for this."
