AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato is mourning the death of her friend who lost his battle with addiction. The former "Sonny with a Chance" star took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, October 9 to pay tribute to Thomas, whom she called her "boo."
"Devastated," the 27-year-old singer/actress wrote along with a black-and-white picture of Thomas. "Please hold your loved ones tight. Tell them they are special and that you love them. Make sure they know it. RIP to my boo @sirtruss." She added three heartbroken emojis.
Having battled and opened up about her own addiction to drugs and alcohol in the past, she added in another post, "Addiction is NO joke.. heaven gained this beautiful angel last night because of that terrible disease. I'm crushed and will always miss you @sirtruss." She went on urging her followers, "If you or someone you know is struggling please know it's okay to ask for help."
Demi once opened up that she started "self-medicating" with drugs and alcohol when she was a teen. She first went to rehab at the age of 18 in 2010, and completed inpatient treatment at Timberline Knolls in January 2011.
In 2017, the "Skyscrapper" songstress admitted that her treatment at Timberline Knolls was not entirely successful, stating that she still struggled with alcoholism and a cocaine addiction in the year following her stint in the treatment center.
In July 2018, she suffered a near-fatal opiod overdose and was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was hospitalized for two weeks and subsequently entered an in-patient rehab facility. She left treatment three months later.
Demi has since been taking time to focus on her health. "She works out at Unbreakable with a trainer several times a week. She goes to therapy. She eats healthy food and takes great care of herself," a source said a year after her drug overdose. "She goes to lunch or dinner with friends. Her health and well-being are her priority. Her life is simple but fulfilling because she is feeling great."
