The 'Ask Me How I Know' crooner is joining the likes of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Carole King and Billy Joel in the list of the Library of Congress' honorees.

AceShowbiz - Garth Brooks has been named the latest recipient of the Library of Congress' prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

The country star becomes the youngest person to be honoured. He joins the likes of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Sir Paul McCartney, Carole King, and Billy Joel, who have all picked up the award in recent years.

The gong is named after songwriters George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and honours a living artist's lifetime achievement.

"An award is only as good as the names on it," Brooks said in a statement. "I am truly humbled."

Brooks will collect the Gershwin Prize in Washington, D.C., in March 2020.
