Based on Patricia Highsmith's bestselling novels, 'Ripley' will see the 'Fleabag' star as a struggling New Yorker in the 1960s who is hired to convince a wealthy businessman's son to return home.

AceShowbiz - "Fleabag" star Andrew Scott has landed the role of Patricia Highsmith's literary hero Tom Ripley in a new TV adaptation of the author's books.

Showtime bosses have picked up Steven Zaillian's drama series "Ripley", based on Highsmith's bestselling novels.

As Ripley, Scott will play a struggling New Yorker, hired to convince a wealthy businessman's son to return home from Italy.

The show will be set in the 1960s.

Matt Damon previously played Ripley on the big screen in 1999 film "The Talented Mr Ripley".
