Former NBA Star Andre Emmett Shot Dead Following Altercation in Dallas

Hours before he was fatally shot near his home in the city, the former New Jersey Nets player documented on Instagram Stories his quality time with his two young daughters.

AceShowbiz - Former NBA star Andre Emmett was killed in a street shooting early Monday morning, September 23 in Dallas. His death was confirmed by The Dallas Police Department, who said in a statement that the athlete was involved in an altercation with two unidentified men prior to the shooting that took place in front of his home in the city. Emmett was 37.

According to authorities, Emmett was approached by two suspects at approximately 2:30 A.M. as "he sat in his vehicle in front of his residence in the 1800 block of N. Prairie Avenue." It was reported that the suspects pulled out a handgun and altercation ensued, during which Emmett was shot when he was trying to run away from the suspects.

Emmett was eventually discovered by a passerby and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries. Meanwhile, the suspects who were both identified as males fled the scene in a white Chrysler 300.

Investigation is currently ongoing as police have yet to disclose the motive behind the murder.

Emmett's colleague and friends have since poured in their tribute after news of his death broke. In its statement, Big 3 League admitted they were "in a state of shock over the sudden and tragic death" of the star, who played for them for some time. "Andre was a member of the BIG3 family for two seasons and never without a smile on his face. His kindness towards others and easy-going demeanor made him a joy to be around," so the statement read.

"Off the court, Dre was passionate about helping young people through his Dream Really Exists foundation. We are simply heartbroken by this devastating loss," the league added. "Our thought are with Andre's family and friends during this difficult time."

Emmett was the all-time leading scorer for Texas Tech University after four standout seasons under coach Bobby Knight from 2000 to 2004. He was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics and played two seasons in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies and New Jersey Nets. He was a two-time NBA G League All-Star and won the 2014 NBA G League All-Star Game MVP. In addition to that, he played for several teams overseas.

His career aside, Emmett has two young daughters, Kennedy and Zara. Hours before his death, he documented the quality time that he had with the girls on Instagram Stories.
