The 'Pokemon: Detective Pikachu' star and the 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' actor are set to star in an upcoming new adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novella.

AceShowbiz - Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are teaming up to spread some holiday cheers. The two actors are reportedly developing a musical reimagining of Charles Dickens' classic novella "A Christmas Carol" which was first published in 1843.

According to The Hollywood Reporter which first broke the news, the "Deadpool" actor and the "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" actor will star in the upcoming musical remake, though their roles are currently unknown. They are also producing through Reynolds' Maximum Effort and Ferrell's Gloria Sanchez Productions along with Mosaid.

Sean Anders and John Morris, who previously teamed up for the "Daddy's Home" films, are tapped to write and direct the new adaptation. The project hasn't found a home as it is still being shopped around town. Insiders claim that multiple studios have shown interest and are bidding for the holiday movie.

Originally called "A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas", Dickens' novel revolves around Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

The movie has been adapted into various forms multiple times. In feature films, the most famous version is perhaps 2009's "A Christmas Carol", a performance capture movie directed by Robert Zemeckis, and starring Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge as well as the three ghosts.

Reynolds recently starred in "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu", providing the voice and facial motion capture for the titular character, and made a cameo appearance in "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw". He will next be seen in Michael Bay's vigilante action movie "Six Underground" and has wrapped the production of "The Hitman's Bodyguard" sequel, "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard".

As for Ferrell, he portrayed Sherlock Holmes in 2018's "Holmes & Watson" and lent his voice in "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" which was released in February of this year. He is starring as himself in new comedy "Between Two Ferns: The Movie" , which has just been released on Netflix.
