Super Awkward Moments in Emmys History
TV

In some cases, celebrities are being caught in an awkward moment at the award-giving event from something beyond their control, while some are the results of them ditching the rehearsals.

AceShowbiz - Besides fans, celebrities are looking forward to attending award-giving events. They would prepare the best ensemble for it and some nominees would write their speech beforehand, hoping they would actually read it when their names were announced as the winner of the category they were competing in. However, despite their best effort to look the best, it seems like they could not escape awkward moments.

Some of the awkward moments apparently happened when they were too shocked for being announced as winners. In some cases, celebrities were caught in such moments for something beyond their control, while some were the results of them ditching the rehearsals.

Now that the 2019 Emmy Awards is fast approaching, AceShowbiz has listed some super awkward moments that celebrities experienced in the award-giving event's history.

1. Seth MacFarlane at the 2012 Emmy Awards

Seth MacFarlane might make sure to attend every award event rehearsal after making a fool of himself at the 2012 Emmys. Being tapped to present an award that night, the "Family Guy" creator confidently took the stage, only to find himself standing in the wrong side of it.

He missed his mark and spoke without a mic on, before someone eventually pointed out to him that he was supposed to be using the mic on the other side of the stage. After awkwardly running to the other side to start over, Seth joked, "This is what happens when you don't go to rehearsal."

2. John Legend at the 2018 Emmy Awards

Just like anybody else, there was no doubt that John Legend put extra effort for his look while attending the 2018 Emmy awards. The "All of Me" hitmaker opted for a navy Gucci tux which made him look dapper, while his wife Chrissy Teigen was stunning as usual in a floor-length silver number with a high slit.

However, John might miscalculate the color of his outfit. While gracing the red carpet, he found himself blending a little bit too much with the backdrop as it was in the same color with his blazer. That was undeniably awkward, but the EGOT winner casually poked fun at his own wardrobe mishap on Instagram and wrote, "Who knew my tux would blend in to the background so perfectly?"

3. Will Arnett at the 2013 Emmy Awards

A reporter should make sure they are updated about whom they are interviewing. However, it appeared that an ET reporter failed to do so as the reporter asked single Will Arnett about his ex-wife Amy Poehler during an interview on the red carpet for the 2013 Emmys.

Seemingly not getting the memo about their 2012 split, the reporter asked the actor how he prepared with his wife for that night's 65th Emmy Awards. His response was as cringey as the moment as he replied, "I don't really have a significant other… She doesn't exist," before concluding the awkward interview with a joke, "I'm excited, I can't wait to watch this back on YouTube all week."

4. Allison Janney at the 2004 Emmy Awards

In 2004, Allison Janney came out as the winner of Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Seemingly wanting to share her victory with her fellow nominees, the "Mom" star insisted on having Mariska Hargitay and others to join her on stage while she delivered her speech.

Her intention might be good, but that only made things awkward. Mariska was seen standing awkwardly beside her while Allison gave her a shout-out in her speech, saying, "Mariska, I know I told you something last night, that I would give this to you, and it seems like such a silly idea in this moment."

5. Kirsten Dunst at the 2018 Emmy Awards

The 2018 Emmy Awards marked Kirsten Dunst's major return on the red carpet after she gave birth to her and beau Jesse Plemons' son, Ennis Howard Plemons. The "Bring It On" actress looked stunning in a gorgeous royal blue Schiaparelli dress, but her perfect night was interrupted by the most relatable seat-related mishap.

While Alex Borstein made her way to accept the Supporting Actress in a Comedy award for her performance on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", viewers could see Kirsten and Jesse awkwardly crouching in the aisle a few rows back. Kirsten captured the moment, which was caught on national television, and posted it on her Instagram account. "Couldn't find our seats," she hilariously captioned the image.

6. Aziz Ansari at the 2016 Emmy Awards

At the 2016 Emmy Awards, Aziz Ansari and writer Alan Yang shared the award for Best Comedy Writing for his Netflix series "Master of None". The actor and his partner, who snagged the prestigious award for writing an episode titled "Parents", took the stage together with Alan going first with his speech.

However, Alan took long to finish his speech, resulting in Aziz not having time to get a word in. Further making things awkward, Aziz was seen awkwardly shuffling on and off the stage before the camera cut back to host Jimmy Kimmel. "They cut off Aziz! He ran back up to the microphone to talk but was given no sound," Andrea Mandell wrote on Twitter at the time.

7. Trevor Noah at the 2018 Emmy Awards

John Legend is not the only one who had wardrobe mishap at the 2018 Emmys. While the singer got metaphorically blended with the background, Trevor Noah literally had one of the carpet decorations stuck to him.

While gracing the red carpet in a black suit and a pair of Christian Louboutin velvet shoes, the talk show host stepped on the Emmys step-and-repeat sticker. Unfortunately, the marker got stuck to his shoes and he was forced to peel it off in front of cameras. Being a professional he is, Trevor overcame the super embarassing and awkward moment by laughing it off. The "Black Panther" star even struck a pose with the gold star which was on his red-soled shoes.

8. Bill Hader at the 2018 Emmy Awards

Bill Hader was among the winners at the 2018 Emmy Awards. The actor was honored with Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his stunning performance on "Barry", beating out fellow nominee Donald Glover among others. The awkward moment occured when he stopped briefly to accept a hug from "Atlanta" character Teddy Perkins, who was surprisingly among the guests, while he was on his way to collect the trophy.

Prior to this, it was highly assumed that Donald played the Michael Jackson-inspired character, but that was proven wrong as Donald was sitting comfortably in the audience. Apparently, Bill was just as clueless as others. In an interview backstage, the award-winning star admitted, "I don't know who that guy was that I hugged."
