AceShowbiz - The doctor responsible for Britney Spears' medical treatment died suddenly - just weeks before a court will determine whether she was receiving appropriate treatment.
According to TMZ, Dr. Timothy Benson passed away on 24 August, with sources reporting the 48-year-old psychiatrist died from an aneurysm. News of his death comes days before a court-appointed evaluator is set to determine whether the star was receiving appropriate treatment under Dr. Benson's care.
Britney entered a live-in facility for mental health treatment in April while under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie. However, the "Toxic" singer's mother, Lynne, has been critical of Jamie's handling of the medical care her daughter has been getting, and questioned the medications Britney was receiving for her serious mental health issues.
The star cancelled her planned "Britney: Domination" residency show in Las Vegas, when it was reported the medicine she was taking had lost its efficiency after her father underwent life-threatening surgery. But those close to the mother-of-two questioned her sudden, rapid decline - raising questions about Dr. Benson's expertise in treating serious mental health issues.
It is unknown how the doctor's passing will affect the case.
Meanwhile, Jamie will appear in court on Monday, September 09, to ask a judge to temporarily relieve him of conservatorship duties until January due to "personal health reasons." Britney's case manager, Jodi Montgomery, is expected to be put in charge.
It comes days after Jamie's former son-in-law, Kevin Federline, accused him of engaging in a physical altercation with the "Womanizer" star's 13-year-old son Sean last month (August 2019).
Child protection officials have launched an investigation into the alleged incident which, if found to be true, could also affect Jamie's conservatorship of his daughter.
