AceShowbiz - Princess Charlotte was "very excited" to attend her first day at school on Thursday, September 5.

Charlotte was accompanied by her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and older brother Prince George, as she arrived at Thomas's Battersea in south west London.

The four-year-old, the great-granddaughter of Britain's monarch Queen Elizabeth, will be known as Charlotte Cambridge to staff and schoolmates. She joins six-year-old George, who began attending the fee-paying independent school in 2017.

The youngster clutched her mother Kate's hand as she arrived on site, while George held hands with his father Prince William. And in pictures obtained by The Daily Telegraph, she could be seen being greeted by Helen Haslem, head of the lower school, who shook hands with the princess who looked smart in her uniform - a navy school skirt and red-trimmed sweater.

According to the publication, the Duchess said to Helen, "Good morning! How are you? Did you have a nice summer?" before encouraging Charlotte to shake hands. And the Duke added, "First day! She's very excited."

The Christian school, which is open to people of all faiths, teaches 560 boys and girls between the ages of four and 13, with yearly fees for four-year-olds of around $24,000 (£19,000). As well as academic achievement, the school focuses on creating positive relationships between pupils, teachers and parents.

Charlotte will enjoy a curriculum which includes art, ballet, drama, ICT, French, music and physical education at the school, which is housed in a Grade II listed building, the former Sir Walter St. John's Grammar School, which dates back to 1700.
