AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift has been promoting diversity a lot these days. Following the gay marriage in her "You Need to Calm Down" music video, the country-turned-pop superstar hired a black model to play her love interest in "Lover" music video that was unveiled on Thursday, August 22.
Directed by Taylor and Drew Kirsch, the retro visuals sees her and the black model, whose name is Christian Owens, dancing and goofing in a giant dollhouse within a snow globe as they go through ups and downs together. In the final scene of the music video, the two get their happily ever after as they are revealed to be having a daughter, who opens a Christmas present containing a snow globe.
Fans are ecstatic to learn how Taylor finally has a music video with a black man starring as her love interest. "TAYLOR HAVING A MUSIC VIDEO WITH A BLACK LOVE INTEREST AND A MIXED CHILD... YEAH I'M CRYING WE LOVE DIVERSITY," one couldn't contain her excitement and exclaimed. "As a black fan I'm personally so happy to FINALLY see some representation in what I'm assuming is Taylor's love interest in a music video?? I'm gonna cry???" another gushed.
Someone similarly said, "I can't stop crying I really just watched a Taylor Swift music video where she was in love with a black man and they have a mixed daughter." One other enthusiastically wrote, "TAYLOR W A BLACK MAN AS HER LOVE INTEREST IN HER MUSIC VIDEO WE STAN HARDER."
This isn't the first time Christian worked with Taylor because he is her longtime backup dancer. The singer said of him during a YouTube Live ahead of the video's release, "The leading man in this video is someone I have performed on stage with for years. [He was the] leading man in the 'King of My Heart' performance every night on the 'Reputation' tour. Every night I could see how expressive he is and just how heroic and what an amazing actor he is as well."
"Lover" is the title track of her upcoming album that is set to be released on Friday, August 23.
