In the statement, police disclosed that Ben was found unresponsive in his home in Minyon Falls, Whian Whian near Nimbin after calls were made about his welfare. The statement read, "Police attended Minyon Falls, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare. The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious."

The cause of his death is currently unknown, though there are rumors that Ben took his own life.

Several celebrities have sent their condolences after learning of his passing. Ada Nicodemour, one of his former "Home and Away" co-stars, said, "I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben's passing, my heart goes out to his family." Meanwhile, Lynne McGranger said, "What a terrible tragedy. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and friends."

He had a change of career after leaving the show, working as a senior solicitor after completing his law degree.
