'Black-ish' Creator Gets Sued for Allegedly Stealing Idea for 'Girls Trip'

Along with co-writer Tracy Oliver, producer Will Packer and director Malcolm D.Lee, Kenya Barris is facing a federal lawsuit from a man claiming to be the original creator of the 2017 hit.

AceShowbiz - "Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris has been hit with a lawsuit alleging he stole the premise for comedy "Girls Trip".

According to documents obtained by The Blast, the writer and producers at Universal, have been hit with a federal lawsuit by Milford Jeremy McDonald, who maintains he came up with the idea for the 2017 hit.

"Girls Trip" was written by Barris and screenwriter Tracy Oliver and directed by Malcolm D.Lee, who are all named in the suit, along with producer Will Packer.

McDonald claims to be the creator and owner of a song entitled "Girl's Trip" and says he met Universal's former vice president, Maani Edwards, who then took the idea for the track and came up with the film, which starred Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish.
