AceShowbiz - Beyonce Knowles is undoubtedly a trendsetter, not only in music and fashion, but also in social media. The former Destiny's Child member and her daughter Blue Ivy have started a new viral challenge, thanks to Bey's new song "Brown Skin Girl" which features vocals from her 7-year-old daughter.
"Brown skin girl/ Your skin just like pearls/ The best thing in the world/ Never trade you for anybody else," Blue Ivy sings in the intro of the song, which is included in the soundtrack album of Disney's latest live-action remake "The Lion King (2019)".
The empowering song has received praises from celebrities like Lupita Nyong'o, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland, and has inspired others to embrace their beauty in their natural dark skin color. Many Twitter users have posted their pictures online using the hashtag #BrownSkinGirlChallenge, showing how they are proud for being "brown skin girl."
Director Ava DuVernay took part in the challenge, though she posted pictures of other dark-skinned girls instead of herself. "It's always an honor to capture the beauty of brown skinned girls. #BrownSkinGirlChallenge," the filmmaker tweeted.
She also shared a video of little girls dancing to the song. Ava captioned it, "To me, it doesn't get much better than this. Brava, @Beyonce. You've done a beautiful thing here. I see pride. I see joy. #BrownSkinGirlChallenge."
One Twitter user who shared her selfies wrote along with the pictures, "as soon as i saw the trend i just had to hop in too and join my beautiful brownies #BrownSkinGirlChallenge."
Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o previously raved about the song, tweeting, "Brown Skin Girl. Thank you @Beyonce for this Gift! #BrightnessIsJustWhoYouAre." Another fan reacted to the track, "BROWN SKIN GIRL really just sat here and made my a** cry, Blue snatched my whole scalp. Such a beautiful song, inspiring. Beyonce you have done it once again. SaINt JHN & WizKid you're both honestly amazing. Stream for better skin. My heart honestly swells at it. Black is beauty."
