Breaking the casting news of the former 'Cheers' star are the driving force behind hit comedy '30 Rock' herself and her 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' co-creator Robert Carlock.

AceShowbiz - Ted Danson has been voted in as a TV mayor for a new comedy series co-created by Tina Fey.

The "Cheers" and "The Good Place" star will play a wealthy businessman who becomes mayor of Los Angeles in the untitled new project.

Announcing the show and Danson's casting on Thursday, July 18, Fey and her writing partner Robert Carlock said in a statement: "We are thrilled to be back home at NBC and writing for one of the network's greatest stars of all time, Mary Steenburgen's husband, Ted."

Fey and Carlock were the Emmy-winning driving force behind hit comedy "30 Rock", while they are also producers of Netflix hit series "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".
